Kyphoplasty
Treatment for Acute Vertebral Fractures: Kyphon.com
Kyphoplasty
is a new technique doctors are using in the treatment
of spine fractures. The treatment is a very effective way
to quickly stabilize the broken bone and usually results
in a marked reduction of pain.
It is a minimally invasive type of surgery performed
through two small holes made over the fractured vertebra
in the back. A
small balloon tipped plastic tube is placed into the
broken bone and inflated.
Cement is then injected into the space made by
the ballon that glues the fractured bone back together.
This treatment stabilizes the fracture resulting
in reduction of pain.
