Osteoporosis is a bone weakening disease effecting one out
of three Atlanta women after the age
50. Most people with osteoporosis don’t even know it until
they break a bone. Today, an exciting array of new
diagnostic tools and treatment options have become available
that allow us to effectively treat as well as prevent
osteoporosis in most patients. For instance, Forteo, a new
medical treatment has recently become available for use,
which stimulates the growth of healthy new bone. This drug
is so effective that it will be virtually curative in many
patients.
Osteoporosis is usually
present for many years with no symptoms at all. All the
while, bone is slowly getting weaker. During this time, a
bone density test is the only reliable way to detect bone
loss in time to stop it.
