Osteoporosis
Research Team
 Grattan Woodson, MD FACP, a nationally recognized expert in the field
of osteoporosis, is the Medical Director of the Osteoporosis Center
of Atlanta (OCA). He is responsible for reading and interpreting
all the bone density tests conducted at the OCA. He also provides
osteoporosis consultations and ongoing physician care and follow-up
visits to our patients. He has devoted his professional life to
the management of patients with osteoporosis, to research into new treatments
for this disease, and to the education of physicians on topics associated
with osteoporosis. He obtained his MD at
the Medical College of Georgia in 1980 and then completed a three year
internal medicine residency training at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital
in Cooperstown, New York, an affiliate of Columbia University College
of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York. In 1983, Dr. Woodson
joined the full-time faculty of Emory University School of Medicine
where he began his work in osteoporosis.
In 1986 he left full-time
academic life at Emory to form the Osteoporosis Center of Atlanta, where
he focused his efforts on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with
osteoporosis and osteoporosis research. Over his career, Dr. Woodson
has participated in a large number of research studies that include
all the agents currently US FDA approved for treatment and prevention
of osteoporosis. He is the also the author of a number of articles
on the diagnosis and treatment if this disease. He participates
in physician education activities about one day each workweek and maintains
his relationship with Emory University where he serves as a Clinical
Instructor of Medicine.

Brenda
Travis
Bone Density Technician
Brenda
Travis, CDT has been with the Osteoporosis
Center of Atlanta, since 1999.
She is responsible for conducting
all bone density tests at the OCA,
analyzing the test results, conducting
daily quality assurance procedures,
and getting the reports printed and
delivered to the patient and their
doctors. She was first certified
on the Hologic QDR series of DXA bone
densitometers by the manufacturer,
Hologic in 1999. In 2003
she completed her requirements for
the prestigious professional designation
Certified DXA Technician awarded
by the International Society for Clinical
Densitometry. The CDT
professional designation requires
that the radiology technician have
at least two years experience as a
technician, attend educational programs
on the science and application of
bone densitometry, and pass both a
written and practical examination.
We are proud to have a person of Brenda’s
skill and training working with us
at the OCA. Brenda also works
with our sister osteoporosis research
center, the Atlanta Research Center,
LLC, where she performs all our research
DXA bone density examinations. |

Quintelle
Perry
Medical Assistant
Quintelle
Perry, MA serves as a Medical Assistant
at the Osteoporosis Center of Atlanta.
She is often the first medical person
our patients encounter at the center
is manages all aspects of patient
contact with us.
Quen’s duties include coordinating
all aspects of the patient’s
visit to the center. These include
welcoming the patient, providing the
patient with an orientation to the
center and giving them an idea of
what they can expect at their visit,
taking their vital signs, and drawing
their blood. Quen is also responsible
for helping us obtain other physician
or hospital records on our patients
as well as assisting patients in scheduling
outside procedures like X-rays or
other tests.
Quen
is also an excellent patient educator
and is skilled in explaining how patients
are to use their osteoporosis medications.
She is also the patient’s principal
clinical contact with the OCA and
the person to call if our patients
have any medical issue that needs
attention such as a medication refill
or side effect. In addition
to all these tasks for our regular
patients, Quen serves as a Research
Assistant at our sister osteoporosis
center, The Atlanta Research Center,
LLC where she coordinates the DANCE
study, an observational study of the
use of FORTEO for the treatment osteoporosis.

Monica
Lang
Business Office
Monica Lang is the Business Office Manager for the
Osteoporosis Center of Atlanta.
She serves as our Patient Representative
in the office and is the person to
see when our patients have any billing,
payment, personnel, or scheduling
issue. She is also in
charge of our office policies and
procedures so when our patients have
a complaint about the OCA, they should
bring it to Monica’s attention.
When it comes to dealing with insurance
companies, Monica is a Tiger.
She gets the job done. She knows
all the ins and outs of insurance
and Medicare and helps our patients
get the most out of their policies.
Monica has over 10 years of experience
with patient billing and dealing with
the insurance industry. We consider
her our Go To Person for any questions
or issues related to our patients
bills. She is also the person
our patients are directed to if they
are having financial trouble and need
to work something out on their account
with us. |
